Russia's invasion of Ukraine
Downend and Emersons Green residents showed their support for Ukraine after the country was invaded by Russia, led by President Vladimir Putin, on 24 February 2022.
The Ukraine flag was flown at many public places, including the Langley Arms pub in Emersons Green.

Electric scooters
Residents in the West of England can hire e-scooters as part of a government trial, running from October 2020 until May 2024. Our region is the first area in the UK to offer both the Voi hop-on hop-off and the long-term rental options.
The trial is led by the West of England Combined Authority in partnership with Bath & North East Somerset Council, Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire Council.
The West of England is one of only four Future Transport Zones in the country, set up to trial new transport technologies to cut congestion, improve air quality and reduce carbon emissions.
